Winter is tough for road cyclists but get yourself some decent kit and you can be protected from the elements. Your bike though, that needs some loving. Here are some key things to keep an eye on so you can keep on riding and be a true warrior of the road.

Wash it - The frequency of cleaning your bike will depend on the frequency of use, but try and clean the bike whenever it needs doing so. We know that many of you aren’t going to do this, but please do. It means you won't be having to spend out on replacements as often and less likely to make a distress purchase on a Saturday afternoon. The cleaner the bike, the better it goes.

Cheaper Chain & Cassette - Ok, it involves spending some cash to start with but will avoid you having to replace a higher quality and more expensive chain and cassette down the line. Chains wear out quicker in bad weather, wet lube generally attracts more dirt and grime to your drivetrain which begins to act as a cutting paste with every engagement the chain makes with the teeth of your cassette. Ditch that superlight slotted chain and fit a more economic one. The exact same can be done with your cassette.
